Naturalistic observation allows one to observe behavior in its natural setting. I picture Jacques Cousteau observing the various types of marine life in their natural habitat. The proof that this method yields favorable results is seen clearly within the fact that it’s exponentially more interesting to observe a prostitute under a bridge than in the post office.

Another research method which has proven itself timeless is a good old fashioned experiment. When Einstein used a solar eclipse to successfully prove his theory of relativity, he changed the world in an instant. Many incredible innovations have come into existence due to the brave souls who were willing to blindly experiment. Things like the medicinal effects of Freon, or the reported increased pleasure of autoerotic asphyxiation, could never have been realized without experimentation.

I suppose if I had to choose a research method most interesting to me, it would be experiments within a naturalistic setting. An example of this would be the guy who put himself within the territory of lions. Camera in hand, he systematically moved closer and closer to the lion’s den, observing their reaction to the intrusion the whole way. Or the ingenious and persistent police officers who found, through vigorous trial and error, that they could purchase crack undercover by wearing clown costumes and driving an ice cream truck.

Epic...

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; Each organism, from people, down to the smallest amoeba, have a profound effect and purpose. It could be theorized that life itself knows what it needs to flourish, and tries to steer itself there, through evolution and adaptation. Self-aware, life acts as one coherent entity, manifesting itself in various abnormalities and mutations. These changes would seem to be with one purpose: to preserve and strengthen life. Yet among these “life preserving” phenomena, are some which seem counterintuitive. Homosexuality would seemingly go against the rules of evolution. However, to think that there is no purpose for such a thing would be to greatly underestimate the deliberate nature of life.

The art of making a book not suck potatoes.....by adding ninjas. She goes to school during the day and works in a factory with her single mother at night. Her infatuation with a guy at the factory blossoms into a physical relationship and biggity-bang, she earns herself a fuck trophy. Forced by her mother to keep the child, she has the kid and doesn't tell Matt, the father. The book ends with her unsure whether to tell her son about Matt, or let the kid grow up to be an Asian bastard with an awckward slut mom. Epilogue, 10 years later:

Ninja Volleyball Master

As Kimberly enters the room, she is met by her curious son, Jason. As she tells Jason that his father is Matt, he is forced to contemplate his existence on this earth. A vision comes to him in a dream. He is thrust into consciousness when he realizes his calling in life is to become the world’s greatest ninja volleyball player. He doesn’t know much about the sport, but with his mother’s intelligence and his father’s physical attributes, he would be sure to succeed at anything he put his heart into.

When Jason graduates from high school, he gets serious about his training. He feels a strong gravitational pull to his roots in China, and his mother is obliged to send him back for the elite ninja volleyball training he so desperately needs. When he arrives, he is instantly broken of his western ways. He is humbled and disciplined by masters of the sport. He trains night and day, readying himself to engage in fierce ninja volleyball guerilla.

Jason completes his training and comes back to America. He joins the Olympic ninja volleyball team, quickly earning the spot as the captain, and takes his team all the way to the top. The final match is with bitter ninja volleyball rivals, Ethiopia. The match is intense and Jason hurts his ankle on a reverse McGilla Cutty pile-driver spike. Fearing he can’t continue, he looks to the crowd for inspiration.

He sees his mother and Matt making out. “They must be back together”, he thought. Not sure if he should be overjoyed by the thought of his mother and father rekindling their love or absolutely grossed out by them making out, he chokes back his nausea and presses on. The ball is served by Ethiopia and it comes straight to Jason. He channels his all his emotions into one solid kick and returns fire, killing one of the opposing team’s forwards. He feels both terrible and overjoyed. By striking such a fatal blow, knows he just solidified his spot as the most feared ninja volleyball player ever, and would be the only man in history to kill someone with a volleyball to the jugular.

I'm pretty sure I'm either gonna fail this class or drive the professor to suicide.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://www.epicpwn.com/2011/10/art-of-making-book-not-suck-potatoesby.html' title='The art of making a book not suck potatoes.....by adding ninjas. I was parked facing the beach, I was over dressed, and I was uncomfortable. The A/C of my Blue Impala was giving me everything it had. The steering wheel was still hot to the touch. I looked up through a dirt smeared windshield, to the ocean, and to a day which would be perfect for a beach goer. The sky was clear, the ocean calm, and the sun relentless. The little waves laughed mockingly as they broke, knowing I was unable to take them up on their offer. On other days when I sat here, I would listen to music, a song or two, to get my mind ready for the abuse it would soon experience. Not today. I reluctantly fastened the remaining buttons of my chef's jacket. "As if this shit hole had chefs," I thought. I braced myself for the inevitable, cut the ignition, and stepped out onto the scorching blacktop.

I was standing in the parking lot of the Howard Johnson Hotel, and The Patio Bar and Grill, in Deerfield Beach Florida. In the winter it's a good job, there are tourists, plenty of business, and it's not too hot to stay alive. I hated having to answer to someone, being talked down to, and being subordinate to remarkably unintelligent individuals. I got my dose of all these things working here. As I walked away from my car and the ocean and all their promises of freedom, I recalled a time when this business was enjoyable. Working for tips, not dollars per hour, and definitely not in the kitchen, meeting various waitresses, and hostesses, and basking in the alcohol fueled nightlife of a restaurant employee. I crossed the street in the same place I crossed it each day. The dreary Deerfield scenery with it's plethora of deserted weekly beach rentals blended into the background as I neared the hotel. Season was over, there was barely any business, the only position I could work was as a line cook, I'd have made more at Blockbuster if they were hiring.

As I neared the rear entrance to the hotel's pool, blackness and death dominated my mind. "Don't be a spoiled bitch," I told myself, "Be happy you have a job." I wasn't. Recently I had started taking classes part time and was enjoying them immensely. My meager existence, my apartment, my car, and the job required to sustain them, limited my school, and my progress within it. I pulled my security card out of the worn leather Versace wallet my mom got me for Christmas, and slid it through the sensor on the gate, gaining entrance to the pool. The deserted area reeked of chlorine which at the moment smelled bittersweet. The pool chemicals reminded me of childhood summers and the freedom within them. The emptiness of the patio area was another reminder that season was over, and business hard to come by. Suddenly the sound of my phone ringing through the pocket of worn out Dickies snapped me back to reality. "Must be 3:01 I thought." Glancing at the screen, the name "Chef Pat" was barely visible through the piercing glare that cut my eyes. I immediately hit ignore.

My only hope was that "the chef" (A title who's appropriateness was debatable.) was calling me because he wanted to go home and needed me to be there in order to do so. A common occurrence. My fear was that he called because the owner was in town and we had to cook for him and his entourage, which also was a common occurrence. I didn't have any respect for the owners or the chef. There were good people working here, but it didn't bring out the best in them. If the owners were here, it meant the chef would be here all night. He would be drinking, and my life would be exponentially less pleasant.

I was now close enough to the pool's tiki bar to be seen by the bartender. "Hi Matty!" said Tina. Tina was good company. She was short, barely seeing over the vibrantly colored bottles on her counter. She was older then me, well into middle age, and a lifetimer in the service industry. "Hi" I replied, "How's it going?" She answered only with a look of frustration as she faced zero customers in her New York Giants jersey. The sun hit her bleached blond hair, she was once beautiful. Now her weariness with life was such a reality, it could be tasted by those around her. I smiled, "Are you working tonight?" I asked, hoping she was, as Tina is one of several bartenders I could hit up for a drink. The alcohol helped bring an end to the endless, it passed the time. "Yep." she said. "Good" I thought. "Is the douch and his cronies in town?." "Ya, but they aren't eating here tonight." Happy with the good news I took one final look across the pool to the beach, Patio Bar's endless playlist of Jimmy Buffet echoed softly through distorted speakers. Opening the door to the hotel I stepped into the un-airconditioned lobby, occasionally waving to various work acquaintances as I made my way down the hall. Eventually I found the outdated, and over worked computer which was constantly crashing, and clocked in. "Only five minutes late," I thought, which at the Patio Bar is on time. There was only one thing left to do, see what kind of condition the kitchen was in, and what kind of unpleasantries I'd be unable to avoid.

As I stepped into the closet sized, and oven tempertured kitchen, the familiar smell of un-fresh food, and discontent became apparent. There were no dishwashers, no anyone, just Pat in a relatively clean kitchen. The cleanliness was due to slow business, not cleaning. Despite the tidy appearance, the slow times were the worst for the food quality. Without much money coming in, the chef was increasingly pressured to improve food costs. This meant fear of throwing things away, even after they were far from fresh. Pat turned around and saw me. He was an average looking guy, balding, shaved head, in his upper forties. A southern type, with obviously uneducated opinions of things. He was the chef, he did not love to cook, he was not creative, but he toiled, and held his job to provide for his family. He was wearing standard kitchen attire, and held a plastic cup, which I could bet was full of Canadian Club. He looked at me and with the eyes of a beaten man, who had traded any sense of passion in exchange for survival, said "Hey Matt, I'm glad your here. I've been wanting to talk to you, I really hope your aware how lucky you are to have a job. I just stared back at him. "I really need more from you," he said. "I need you to clean more, and break down the kitchen better when you leave." "O.K. I said, both of us knowing I didn't give a shit. "If you put in the work you could climb the ladder here, it could be a career for you, like it is for me. You should focus and make Patio Bar your number one priority." I looked over at a luke warm bucket of festering, three day old, precooked chicken.

In that moment I knew, the older employees, who wafted dissatisfaction everywhere they went, were a glimpse into my future. I would do anything, no matter how humbling or drastic, to avoid their fate. I needed to be in school full time, and amazingly "Chef Pat," his "little speech", and that festering bucket of chicken were my catalyst.

Skyrim Drops Soon, Best Game Ever?

Skyrim is coming out 11/11/11, and the info and video up to this point look amazing. We are dealing with the strongest game creating team of all time. The only games remotely close to the same level are MMORPG's and even some of these are not as massive or as fun as Fallout and Elder Scrolls. Bethesda is light years ahead of the competition. Morrowind, Oblivion and Fallout 3, featured massive open worlds, complex AI, and the ability to play as you see fit. We are very happy that Bethesda is continuing the Elder Scrolls series, when they let game developers Obsidian, take on Fallout New Vegas, I was apprehensive, and rightly so. Although New Vegas was fun, it was not even close to the level of craftsmanship seen in Fallout 3. Recently, it's been revealed that Skyrim has several new features which are enticing to say the least. On top of a new game engine, who's graphics seem too good to be true, we see many elements which I have been looking for since Morrowind. Duel wield, finally, this will prove to be fun. But not just duel wield like two swords, you can map any one handed weapon to either hand, or any spell. Put the same spell on both hands and cast simultaneously for extra damage. Sick. Go into a dungeon with two mage's staves, the possibilities are endless. Something I'm really looking forward to is the improved third person view. If there is any criticism to be had about Morrowind or Oblivion, the awkward third person fighting would be at the top of my list. It seems this has been addressed, and playing the entire game in third person, is finally a viable option. There are finishing moves, we see one or two in the E3 demo, they look fantastic. Playing as a stealth ninja thief will be more awesome than ever with the ability to sneak up and cut throats. The economy in Skyrim is said to be a part of the game, though your ability to participate in it is still limited, I love these kind of options. One of the heavy incentives of playing Fable 3, is the ability to buy and sell property, run businesses, or rent houses. We will see how close we get. Also new to the Elder Scrolls series is the ability to marry. Opposite or same sex marriages are now a part of the game. Its been hinted that this is not a huge part of the story, but it has been said that your spouse will cook you dinner, sweet! I wonder if we could have children in Skyrim? http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/119/1191569p1.html That was another nice touch in Fable, the ability to have a family. We now can cook certain food and meat, making their effects more beneficial. Cooking could be a skill we'll have to level up.

All the villagers have jobs, like blacksmithing, logging, mining, all the usual RPG trades, but now we can participate in these activities as well. Every item in the game can be viewed close up in high res. and rotated 360 degrees. A nice touch. It is truly amazing that Bethesda can make such an enormous game fit on one disk. The makers of Star Ocean, and Final Fantasy 13 should take notes, three disks each, and their games are not even one tenth the scope of Skyrim, or even Oblivion for that matter. More treasure, better loot, and the ability to carry around more stuff, are all implemented Skyrim features. Something I heard in one of the interview videos with Bethesda's game director Todd Howard, is that when you level up in Skyrim, you now (much like Fallout) get to pick a perk. If you have played the Fallout series then you know how awesome perks are. I can only imagine how sweet leveling up is going to be in Skyrim. A hilarious bit of information is that the game developers stopped counting play time when they hit 300 hours. So this epic will be well over 300 hours to get 100% completion. Another very important change from Oblivion is that the mobs do not level up as you do, instead each area of the game has different level mobs within it. It was annoying to me that when I was a level 30+ badass in Oblivion and went back to earlier areas the mobs had become exponentially stronger to keep up with me. I like low level areas and then graduating to higher level areas. This way you can become strong, then return to your old stomping grounds and get revenge. Sadistic, one hit kill revenge. Todd Howard said the enemies will adjust slightly as you level, but the low areas will stay low level, and the high areas will stay high. Skyrim no doubt has the potential for game of the year, but even more importantly the best game ever.

Love and Unity

When you're from the street you're able to notice the others who have been through similar situations. You notice that sadness in the eyes results from seeing things no one should see. You can feel the struggle in their voice, a result of repression from the higher power of society. Yet not always does a beaten soul stay still. Rather it revolts, and fights back with whatever weapon it has at hand. For an artist, its their voice.

Not long ago I had the opportunity to meet a soul in revolt. At an event called Burning Babylon, Venezuelan singer "BARONI ONE TIME" approached me without notice. He was the only one who did this, separating him from other singers who are "Internationally famous" to the point that they don't speak to commoners. The first thing that I noticed was his strong character and experience, despite his relatively young age. I noticed that there were many things he wanted to say, and I had a slight feeling that I should listen. When he got on stage he sang a peace called "Love and Unity." Not only did the lyrics strike me as the voice of the street, but this voice was certain in what it had to say. The song was well performed sporting a solid reggae beat. Unlike many song writers "Love and Unity" is not focused on being liked by the critics, or for commercial success, but rather to deliver a message. To show the young crowd that violence and intolerance is not the answer.

In my opinion BARONI ONE TIME is a voice that has to be heard everywhere, because the violence, injustice, and struggle of the poor is the same in every corner around the world........Love and Unity.

Artist Cathy Dobson pwns canvas

"Enchanted by colors themselves
Im compelled to unite my
dreamworlds into mesmerized
manifestations of my soul
revealed onto canvas to share
with you."

Inspired by my Aunt Artiste Painter and teacher E. In 1974 I studied drawing at The Art Students League in NYC with Isaac Soyer -Social Realist. Otherwise self taught and naive, I have continued to evolve my own unique energies through my own original art style. One group affected by the disaster that we didn't hear from was the online gaming community on Final Fantasy 11 and Final Fantasy 14. Both games made by SE, run from servers located in Japan. During the first two weeks of the catastrophe, Square Enix was forced to shut them down. This was an attempt to conserve power, as the fate of several power plants was at best uncertain. As a result, one of the most hard core gaming communities was left completely in the dark. With players all over Japan, North and South America, Europe, and other remote areas, the disaster in Japan directly affected the entire world. (of gaming) As the situation progressed, the Japanese government issued guidelines for companies and households about what kind of power consumption would be acceptable. In an act of dedication similar to the heros from their epic story lines, SE found that by turning off the air conditioning in the main corporate building and decreasing the lighting by 50%, they could get the servers running and still meet the power regulations. Despite being front and center in one of the biggest disasters of our time, this infamous online host was able to provide an almost uninterrupted experience. If there was ever a class on the history of gaming, this incredible response to dire circumstances would undoubtedly be a topic of study for years to come.

Dancing Ninja Assassin

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; For example, in both dubstep and garage the rhythm of the music is propelled by an emphatic bass line. Dubstep can usually be identified by a tempo of 140 beats per minute. Typically, it will have what is known as a 2-step rhythm. Syncopation is also frequently used, as are snare drums. More recently, there have been developments into half-time rhythms.

The Development of Dubstep

The earliest forays into dubstep took place in London, England, in 1999. During the development of the genre, the music was far more tentative and integrated break beat, drum and bass, and 2-step garage. The result of which was a much darker sound than the contemporary examples of dubstep.

Although the dubstep genre began to emerge in 1999, it was not named until three years later. In 2002, when the term dubstep first came into usage, the genre had begun to establish itself amongst the many types of dance music. The differences between dubstep, 2-step garage and grime had become more evident by this time. However, it did not spread beyond London, until 2006.

Fundamental to the creation of dubstep was a London club named ‘Forward >>’. It was the first venue dedicated to playing, and producing, dubstep music. The club was first set up in London’s Soho and ran every Sunday night. Eventually, ‘Forward >>’ moved to Shoreditch (also in London), where it continues to operate weekly. ‘Forward >>’ was also responsible for setting up a pirate radio station, Rinse FM, which was based in London. Rinse FM facilitated an increase in dubstep’s audience and helped to create a fan-base outside London.

Expansion of Dubstep

By 2006, the popularity of dubstep had vastly increased. It was gradually becoming a more mainstream genre of dance music. During this period, several websites dedicated to dubstep were created. His face was covered in shadows. It was hard to make him out in the darkness of the forest that surrounded us, but the axe he lifted was plain to see. It glistened with the blood of his victim.

He grinned madly. The shadows were alive, distorting his features.

It was a scene form a nightmare, but I was awake.

Remedy has given us great titles trough the years and best sellers such as Max Payne, it would be really hard to top game like that but Remedy does not disappoint with their new title Alan Wake.

Alan Wake takes place in the town of Bright Falls after the writer Alan Wake decides to escape of all the stress of his artist life and have a nice vacation with his wife and forget about everything. Many people that have played the game already like to discuss what are the reasons that take Alan to have such an abrupt encounter with darkness, perhaps everything is happening on his head or the town has a darker nature like Silent Hill. My bet is the former but story wise, you would have to play the game yourself and add to the many theories of what is going on in Bright Falls.

The Graphics are photo realistic doing a great job with the surroundings and giving us a gorgeous use of the draw distance, is a bit linear but it gives us an illusion of freedom by the size of the levels which are made with much care, the combat system is sometimes clunky but well made for this types of games, the only thing that i think is missing is a close range attack like a knife or blunt weapon of some sort. The adrenaline sure will be pumping when you are surrounded by taken and there is no light close, the sound adds to the experience and the dynamic lighting makes it even better.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; By player driven I mean that YOU the player drive the story line, constantly choosing between good and evil on your surreal futuristic journey to seal the fate of the universe. ME is a ground breaking and elegant series from BioWare, 1st released in 2007 for XBOX 360. This free roaming action rpg now boasts two titles with a third in the works. Both games so far combined classic rpg elements, (such as leveling up, stat building, choosing your own responses in conversations, free roaming around the galaxy, and completing tasks in any order you see fit.) with solid action and 1st person shooter dynamics, crossing them into a complete package which will set the bar for many games to come.

ME allows you to build proficiency in many aspects of combat and espionage manually by spending points in the desired field. You also choose your course of action and responses as either the hero paragon, or the rash rebel renegade. So depending on your combat specs and your good / evil ratio, two players who both finish the game might have completely different experiences.

The crown jewel of this game is the extra tight combat controls paired with a story line worthy of a Hollywood Blockbuster. Without giving away any plot points, this story can hold up with some of the greatest sci-fi movies and books of all time.

How you choose to respond in conversation will have a huge impact on the story with many possible outcomes. All dialogue is well written and performed by voice over artists giving a smooth and realistic feel.

ME's production design is also amazing. Wherever you go is visually stunning, with an intelligent and futurey kind of feel. I'm always amazed when I step into an elevator on the Citadel (The political capital of the Milky Way) and the galactic news comes on, reporting various happenings around the galaxy. In these moments you really feel like your immersed in an incredible story.

There are many side quests apart from the main story line, and the opportunity to build relationships and romances with a variety of species. Adding decorations and pets to the private quarters aboard your ship is also a nice touch.

All in all this is an excellent series. I would highly recommend buying both the first two games so you get the story from the beginning. Also keep your save files as they carry over to the next game. Be aware that the choices you make effect the plot of future games in the series. I hope you're all looking forward to Mass Effect 3 as much as I am!

Good ol' school

Back in the day, 40s 50s 60s that is, we had a really naive way of viewing things, if you dont believe me, go ahead and ask your grandmother (if still alive) how she lost her virginity (great grandmother for the younger crowd), she will describe that shit so perfectly, because it was like getting a new console on xmas morning.
